What to bring?
To ensure you get the most out of your sailing or powerboat course and have an enjoyable day, there are a few items you'll need to bring with you.
Clothing
Generally for just learning to sail, some old trousers (not jeans because they hold too much water when wet), a warm top (not a fleece or woollen jumper, again they hold too much water), and old trainers-style shoes will do (not crocs or flip flops - too slippery)
In the Summer: high factor sun cream on your face, a baseball hall, and sun glasses are useful - remember to tie the glasses on with string or a retainer
In the Spring and Autumn: a warm hat and gloves
Splash or spray tops are useful and will reduce wind chill
When sailing it's best to wear lots of thin layers rather than fewer thick layers: they all trap insulating air between them
Bring a towel, change of clothes and plastic bag for wet clothes
A buoyancy aid is essential - but we can provide you with one
Food and drink
Bring a packed lunch and snacks
Drinks
Tea and coffee will be provided
Drinking water available
Microwave oven available to cook your own food
Medication
Inhalers - in a waterproof container/bag clearly labelled with name
Prescription - required medication should be brought with and clearly named, your instructor should be notified
When?
Our courses are run at weekends over 2 days and have a minimum duration of 16 hours. They usually start at 09:30 and run until 17:30 with a break for lunch and a short break in the morning and afternoon. Please arrive promptly.
What in?
Usually you will start the course in a double-handed boat - like the Wanderer - with an instructor, and then move onto a single-handed boat as you progress.
How Much?
Current 2-day RYA course fees are:
Adult - £135
Youth - £125
