We are delighted to announce that Guy and Vicky Forkes have been awarded the RYA's Lifetime Commitment Community Award in recognition of their huge contribution to the Club over more than 30 years. Guy has twice served as the Club's Commodore and is the current Rear Commodore. Vicky has held several Committee appointments. Both Guy and Vicky helped start-up WASH Sailability at the Club to bring sailing to the disabled. Their award will be presented by HRH Princess Royal in London, in November. Vicky commented “I am very proud to be following in my father's footsteps because he too was given a similar award.” Other club news:
This week has seen 12 young club members gaining their national RYA sailing qualifications after successfully completing their training courses at the club – 8 of the inexperienced youngsters gained either their RYA Level 1 or 2, and 4 more experienced sailors successfully went on to gain their Level 4 award.
Racing on Sunday started in fairly blustery conditions, with the wind abating in the late morning to a perfect sailing breeze. In a closely fought first race, Chris Seear in his Streaker beat Kieron Adams sailing his Laser, with Chris Moore sailing a Wanderer with his daughter Maddison in third place – Maddison’s first of two podium finishes over the day! In the second race, Chris Seear finished just 2 seconds ahead of Kieron, with Ellis sailing a Topper in third. The final and third race saw Kieron return to winning form, and taking day’s prize – a punnet of strawberries.
