Enterprises to the fore

There was a good turn out for SESCA’s ‘Hot Cross Bun Trophy’ series on Easter Sunday. The number of entries would have been even higher if it hadn’t been for the RYA Dinghy Instructors’ course that was taking place at the same time.

The wind was very light and shifty, which provided some challenging, close racing and numerous place changes on the figure of eight course.  In the first, race there was a great battle between the three Lasers of Jon Holmefjord, Mike Senior and Mike Steele, which struggled to get clear of the Enterprises of Carl Day/Alan Shaw and visitors Richard and Maureen Denny. On the final lap, Jon looked to have secured a comfortable lead but the wind filled in from astern, allowing the fleet to concertina again. Mike Steele slipped through to the front and appeared to be set to take line honours, however, a final spurt by Mike Senior, just before the line, resulted in a dead heat.

The Enterprises finished not far behind the Lasers, giving them a clear victory on handicap with the Dennys first and Alan/Carl second.

In the second race, Mike Senior led from the start and managed to hang on to finish first ahead of the chasing pack.  The Dennys once again showed mastery of the light conditions and finished shortly after, giving them another first on handicap to secure the Hot Cross Bun Trophy, with Mike Senior second and Mike Steele third.

Next weekend, sees an RYA Adult Beginners’ Course starting on Saturday and continuation of the Early season series on Sunday.
