A great success!

Our RYA 'Push The Boat Out' / BBC ‘Get Inspired’ Open Weekend was a great success.  The sun shone, there was a light breeze and a steady stream of visitors, who all appeared to thoroughly enjoy themselves on the water. 148 sailing tasters were given in a variety of sailing dinghies including the Wanderers, Lasers, Toppers and Access sailability craft.  Canoeing tasters also proved popular with the club’s five kayaks in constant use.  An Optimist dinghy was set up on shore with sail and rudder for the very young to try their hand on the helm.

Visitors included: Chris Hussey, Sailing Development Officer for RYA East; two representatives from haart Bury St Edmunds - who had generously provided the wonderful 'For Sail' Open Weekend signs; and Ray Cawston, Managing Director of Cecil & Larter, the local Volvo dealership – a new supporter of SESCA’s junior sailing programme.  Volvo Sailing, sponsors of the GBR sailing team, also came to the party by couriering up banners and boat stickers for the event.

Mike talked on air to Stephanie Mackentyre from BBC Radio Suffolk on Saturday and David Mann at RWSfm in Bury St Edmunds gave the club a good plug on Sunday morning.

Overall, a fantastic weekend for the 157 visitors and all the volunteers.  We warmly welcome the new members who joined the club and the WASH Sailability group.  We look forward to seeing them all out on the water during the season.

Next weekend sees Topper Race Training on Saturday, Club racing for the Spring Cup on Sunday and Bank holiday Monday and the second of the Club’s Youth Sailing sessions on Sunday afternoon.
