2015 Season preview

posted Mar 22, 2015, 1:03 PM by SESCA admin

We hope that you have all survived the winter; your boats are ready and that you are itching to get afloat.

The 2015 season kicks off with the Spring Working Party on Saturday, 28 March, before the sailing starts on Sunday, 29 March. Please let Kathie know if you would like lunch on Saturday.

There is another busy programme scheduled this year with sailing, rowing or canoeing activities taking place on nearly every day throughout the summer. These are being organised by the Club or one of the group members -  he Bury St Edmunds, Mildenhall and Newmarket Sea Cadets; YPA (Young People Afloat); WASH Sailability (disabled sailing); Suffolk Scouts and Priory and Culford Schools.

Club racing will continue to take place on Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday mornings, with a Thursday evening personal handicap series starting at the end of April. Saturdays will, as usual, be reserved for training and social sailing.  Four volunteer members are enrolled on an RYA Dinghy Instructor course, next month, and will hopefully qualify to assist with the RYA Adult and Junior dinghy sailing courses being run later in the year.

Highlights of this year’s programme will be the Club’s ‘Antigua Sailing Day Regatta’, which is being held on Sunday, 26 April; the RYA ‘Push the Boat Out’ Open Weekend, which is being held on the 16/17 May, and Bart's Bash, which is being held on the 20 September. Put the dates in your diary now!

The Regatta celebrates and coincides with ‘Antigua Sailing Week’ and is again being generously supported by the Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Authority. This year, we are planning on making the event a Laser and Topper competition in the hope of getting as many members on the water as possible.

The Open Weekend provides a great opportunity to attract potential new members to visit the Club and try sailing, while it has proven to be a fun, social occasion. We will also be holding another series of Sunday afternoon ‘Have a Go’ sessions; a couple of early season, Saturday afternoon 'Improver' sessions and some Saturday 'Race Training' slots. Please sign up on the Club notice board if you  would like to participate or can help out.

We look forward to seeing you on the water soon.
